Healthcare
Royal London Hospital
London, UK., for HOK
The new 727-bed Royal London Hospital is the UK’s leading trauma and emergency care centre. It is the home of London’s Air Ambulance, which operates from a special area on the roof, as well as Europe’s largest renal service. The cluster of interconnected, contemporary glass buildings includes two 17-story towers, one equipped with the helipad for London’s Air Ambulance, and a 10-story tower. The solution to build up, rather than spread out, condensed the development and improved adjacencies. These new facilities form a health campus incorporating the neighbouring Queen Mary University of London’s Medical School, the School of Midwifery and the Dental Hospital. The design creates a state-of-the-art medical facility that blends in with existing historic buildings dating back to the 18th century.
